HOW DID YOU GUYS BECOME WASTED LIGHTS?
JAMIE: Well we all took music as a GCSE and Ben picked up
the drums, Tom and Hannah taught themselves how to play an acoustic guitar, so
we just decided one day when we were sat in Bens that we would like to be in a
band and play gigs, like that really appealed to us. So then we decided around
July last year to actually do something about it.
BEN: We all love going to gigs and the thought of actually
performing in front of people and them singing
back our lyrics gave me, personally, a kind of lightbulb moment when I
was at the Catfish and The Bottlemen gig in 2015, it really inspired me.
HOW HAS 2016 TREATED YOU? ANY HIGHLIGHTS?
BEN: We actually got the chance to record an ep in a studio
in Liverpool and it was the most fun process ever. Like when it all came
together it was so weird like hearing our own lyrics on a recording other than
hearing a cover of ours on YouTube.
JAMIE: I think the coolest thing we done this year was
playing a gig in the Ruby Lounge in Manchester, it was completely surreal. We
have also done about 6 gigs around Liverpool this year in places like the O2
academy and Studio 2. Gigs are probably my favorite things to like go to and so
to be performing in one is 10X better
TOM: We have a twitter account as well that Hannah mostly
runs and it’s just fun having people tweet us asking us things like when our
next gigs are and when were gonna bring out a new album, it motivates us more.
CAN YOU GIVE US 2 OF YOUR FAVOURITE SONGS/ALBUMS?
HANNAH: Sundara Karma- She said is my fave song at the
moment, no reason just been listening to it loads, and also Songbird by
Fleetwood Mac, makes me cry every time
JAMIE: Trick by Jamie T, just got the vinyl, and anything
sang by Muse, they are so good
BEN: Humbug by Arctic Monkeys and the self-titled album by
the 1975
WHAT INSPIRES YOU AND YOUR MUSIC?
TOM: We all pretty much like the same music so the
inspiration was kinda the same for us. For me ‘Circa Waves’ are the best and
them being from Liverpool just made me love them that little bit more.
HANNAH: I’ve loved Blossoms since like 2014 and I just find everything
about them really cool. But also, we love the big names of the genre like The
Wombats and our all-time favorite album that we all rock out to is ‘A Guide to
Love, Loss and Desperation’. Also, Ben and I went to see Catfish and the Bottlemen
last year and they definitely inspired our EP.
HAVE YOU GOT ANYTHING PLANNED FOR THE REST OF 2016?
HANNAH: We’re actually playing at the O2 academy on the 9th
of December for the ‘Christmas at the O2’ gig, and it should be pretty good,
can’t wait.
FINALLY, WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURTIE BANDS AT THE MOMENT?
JAMIE: Sundara Karma, they’re so so good and they’re playing
in February, which we all just bought tickets for so that’ll should be good.
BEN: 1000% Catfish and the Bottlemen, all-time favorites
HANNAH: I love how David Bowie was just experimental and he
like challenged social norms, not just with his music but also with his
performance too.
